Aristotle analyzes the goods and the virtues that lead to human beings toward happiness in book one of Nicomachean Ethics. According to Aristotle, every activity has an end (or goal); another way of saying this is that the aim of every activity is some kind of good. Concerning this, human existence itself must have some ultimate good. This good must be unique to humans; it is insufficient to say that humans, like animals, act in order to survive. To Aristotle, it seems quite clear that the ultimate human good is happiness. Happiness is that state of mind and life, which all people are always seeking; it is a thing that is totally satisfactory in and of itself. Happiness is thus the ultimate goal of human life. So how is then happiness the final good or end of person and how do such people reach the ultimate end?
Happiness as an end, people seek it for nothing else other than itself.
