Nikolai Nikolaevich Semenov - Russian physicist, one of the founders of Chemical Physics. Developed the theory of thermal explosion of gas mixtures from which developed the theory of propagation of flame, detonation combustion of explosives and gunpowder. Developed the theory of chemical chain reactions, which formed the basis for the creation of polymers - materials with predetermined properties. Nikolai Semyonov was born in Saratov, parents - Nikolai and Elena D. Semenov. In 1913, he graduated from the Samara Nicholas real school with entering a gold plaque. In July 1913 Semenov joined the Mathematics Department of Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the University of Petrograd, where he graduated in 1917 with a diploma of the first degree, and was retained by the university professorial stipendiatom.V 1956 Semenov with Hinshelwood was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for Research into the mechanism of chemical reactions. "In 1929, Semenov was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1932 he became an academician.Β

By this time, Semenov led in-depth studies of chain reactions.
