Phidias

Phidias is often considered one of the greatest ancient Greek sculpturs. As

an Anthenian sculptor, he worked primarily in bronze or in gold and ivory,

creating statues of divinities, hereos, and athlets for the majoor city-states

and sanctuaries. In ancient times his fame was centered on his chryselephantine

(gold and ivory) cult statues, none of which survive. These include Athena

Parthenos that stood in the Parthenon.
