I do not wish to reverse history and go back to the period of time, where discrimination was present and influential in every aspect of our society. However, I do wish to make sure that while making sure that the once oppressed minorities do not have to endure the discrimination ever again, the rights of persons such as myself are not violated in the name of doing the supposed higher good. IN my opinion, the attempt to remedy the past violations has infringed upon my own opportunities. I fully support the idea that the minorities should benefit from the same opportunities that are made available to others, however not at the cost of the latter. I feel that my rights to benefit from the existent opportunities have been limited by the fact that as one of the qualifications for higher degree education is race. As once, the minorities were discriminated against because of their race, so have I been victimized because I am a representative of the white race. It is not race that should be a criterion in accepting a potential student, but rather his qualifications, such as experience, commitment, grades and test scores. Therefore, I believe that I should be reevaluated in the light of my achievements and not on the basis of the color of my skin.
