In England, the education system is slightly different to the one used in France.

Children usually begin nusery school when they are between three to four years old. Here they part take in various activities such as painting, playing with toys and reading simple story books. They also learn how to communicate to each other. They attend nusery school until the age of five.

From the age of five, a child then attends a “reception class” which prepares them for full time scool. After a years experience of reception class, children move into the first year of primary school, “Year one”. The second year of primary school education is “Year two”, the third year is “Year three” etc.

The final year of primary school education is the sixth year. After this, a child begins secondary school education (kids are about eleven to twelve years old at this time). There are five different years in secondary school education (year seven to year eleven).

When the children reach year nine, they are required, by the government, to take a set of tests in the three core subjects (English, Mathematics and Science). These tests as known as S.A.T’s.

In year eleven, a child is expected to take exams in nine subjects, which include the three core subjects. These are known as G.C.S.E’s. After secondary school education, young people are expected to continue their education, but it is not cumpulsory.

After a two year A-level course, the students usually go on to study at a university.
