9.Bartleby

This text is written by Herman Melville. Herman Melville was an American novelist, short story writer, essayist, and poet. He is best known for his novel Moby-Dick.

When I read the title, I thought that it was a funny story. The title does not contain any information.

The title of the text is man's name. Therefore, the text is likely to be an event in the life of a man named Bartleby.

The function tittle of the text is may characterize the protogonist. protagonist – Bartleby; antagonists – author

Bartleby's character can be read in a variety of ways.

The action takes place in the office of the author.

Bartleby shows classic symptoms of depression, especially his lack of motivation. He is a passive person, although he is the only reliable worker in the office other than the narrator and Ginger Nut. Bartleby is a good worker until he starts to refuse to do his work. Bartleby does not divulge any personal information to the narrator. Bartleby's death suggests the effects of depression-having no motivation to survive, he refrains from eating until he dies.

Until the very end of the short story, the work gives the reader no history of Bartleby. This lack of history suggests that Bartleby may have just sprung from the narrator's mind. Also consider the narrator's behavior around Bartleby.

The narrator, Bartleby's employer, provides a first-person narration of his experiences working with Bartleby. He portrays himself as a generous man. His kindness may be derived from his curiosity and fascination for Bartleby. He also portrays himself as tolerant towards the other employees.

Throughout the story, the narrator is torn between his feelings of responsibility for Bartleby and his desire to be rid of the threat that Bartleby poses to the office and to his way of life on Wall Street.

In summary, I think that author wanted to show us how each of us relates to the people who behave strangely.

It's like the analogy between Bartleby and lepers of ancient times. Lepers were often exiled from communities because of their illness. Bartleby was fired from his job. The narrator is surprised when he learns Bartleby "never visited any refectory or eating house.

The text ends with the words: "Oh, humanity" and it shows once again that the author carries the message in this text to everyone.

But the function of setting is to increase the credibility of the plot and to reinforce characterization of main hero. The characters are Adrian is protagonist, Mrs. Mebberley and Lucas are antagonists. All characters are described indirectly, through their actions, speech, thoughts, appearance. Conflict of this extract is external,I think, between man and man.The action is laid on the way to home. The function of setting is to reveal certain features of the characters and shows the main problem in the text. The characters of the extract are protagonist – Jon; antagonists – Fleur and mother’s Jon. The protagonist and antagonists are described indirectly, through their actions, emotions & speech.

Jon hid his love for a girl from her mother. Perhaps he did not want to show that he loves someone other than her.

This opens the problem of early love, and the problem of the age at which you can start meeting with opposite sex.

The text vividly describes the experiences and emotions of the protagonists. We see that the early love of the most romantic. It's butterflies, flowers and promises. But we also see that it is irresponsible love, because they are too young to think about the family.

Alone with Fleur, Jon was a hero, but really - he is a coward and a little boy to his parents.

The emotional state can be traced only to the Fleur meeting with his mother, Jon. After that, she resigned herself.

According to the text the author shows to us how important to be a respectable man, not a double-faced person as John.

In his later years he wrote numerous essays and short stories such as Cake and Ale,The Nrrow Corner, Don Fernando, Up at the Villa and so on.

Title:the meaning of the title isn’t understand for me. But from the plot of the extract I can say that it’s dramatic story about a man who, in adulthood, feeling his gift of the artist, not afraid to radically change their lives. The writer does not become anyone's side, not moralizes, not condemn, Charles Strickland, who served as the prototype of the Paul Gauguin, for cruelty to people close to him, not praise him for his determination, and entitles the reader to draw conclusions.. The title may serve as a means of conveying the author’s message. The extract is the first person narrative. Dominant point of view of the author. The general atmosphere of the extract is tragic. The plot has a complex narrative structure, because there are some cases, when narrator remember events from his past. Conflict of this extract can be as external:man-society.Settings is different, because the events described take place in various locations. The functions of setting is to increase the credibility of the plot. The protagonist of the extract is narrator, the antagonist is Strickland. All characters are described indirectly, through their actions, speech, thoughts, appearance. In my opinion the theme is the fate of the artist in art and in life, considering the problem of 'evil genius', and, conscience, human weakness. The message: this extract will be especially useful to those who feels that an impasse, those who are not sure what to do in life what should be, those who believe that it is too late to change anything.

An American Tragedy is a novel by the American writer Theodore Dreiser. Albert Dreiser was an American novelist and journalist of the naturalist school. His novels often featured main characters who succeeded at their objectives despite a lack of a firm moral code, and literary situations that more closely resemble studies of nature than tales of choice and agency. The main message of the text - which is becoming a man is laid in childhood their parents. So who we are, largely dependents on our relationships in the family since childhood.

In the text we see two problems:

The first - the problem of identity. Internal opposition to everything that the protagonist sees around him, and dreams about another life.

The second - the problem within the family, the antipathy to his parents. Parents are busy missionary activities and they do not care what they feel their children.

22. All fresh is grass

Clifford Donald Simak was born in 1904. He was an American science fiction writer. Simak's stories often repeat a few basic ideas and themes. An idea often found in the stories is the idea that there is no past time for a time traveler to go to. Instead, our world moves along in a stream of time, and to move to a different place in time is to move to another world altogether.Title: The title of the book - a quotation from the Old Testament from the Issaya 40:6. When I’ve read the title I don’t understand nothing. But when I’ve read the extract I’ve known that it’s science-fiction novel. Enough to enter the wrong door or go around the wrong side of a hill, as you find yourself in a strange universe where the laws are not the ones to which you are accustomed to on our world. And we must be more attentive and ability for our actions.
